The industry is sort of warming up to Adobe Premiere for heavy duty editing work but FCP still holds the market share. From personal experience as an editor, I hate the fact that the industry still uses FCP 7. FCP 7 was released in 2009- FIVE YEARS AGO! Things have changed drastically since then. And with Adobe moving all it’s tools to the cloud- the subscription model of their production software has made it slightly more affordable. And affordability is important here. A lot of us use illegal version of our favourite editing software. Not that it’s a bad thing (I am liberal with piracy- sharing is caring) but what if we had a free Non Linear Editor?
Enter Lightworks Free. A very capable and free non-linear video editing software.
It’s cross platform (works on Windows / Linux / OS X) and some of the awesomest movies in the last 20 years have been edited on Lightworks- Moulin Rouge, Romeo & Juliet ,The Wolf of Wall Street, Pulp Fiction… (here’s more)
Yes, the free edition is kinda limited- but then you aren’t paying anything to anyone. The pro edition ups the ante and has some kick-ass features for a very sweet price-point. Here are the differences.
So which is your favourite NLE, would you Lightworks for your projects? Do let us know in the comments.
