Roger Deakins was been the cinematographer for over 70 films, nominated for 11 Oscars and won 3 BAFTA awards. His impressive credentials include films such as No Country for Old Men, A Beautiful Mind, Fargo and True Grit. He is known for his simplistic lighting design (often using only one or two lights) and also for his usage of only spherical lenses ( as opposed to anamorphic lenses).
Someone said to me, early on in film school… if you can photograph the human face you can photograph anything, because that is the most difficult and most interesting thing to photograph. If you can light and photograph the human face to bring out what’s within that human face you can do anything.
